The Miami Women’s Club is a petite golden yellow tower at the south end of Margaret Pace Park, standing watch over Biscayne Bay. This Mediterranean Revival structure was designed by August Geiger, one of the great Med Revival architects of Miami’s early years, and opened in 1926. Construction of the majority of City Place Doral, the mixed-use retail and residential development being jointly built by the Related and Shoma Groups, has topped off according to the developers, and is on schedule for completion by the fourth quarter of this year. This encompasses the Flats at City Place Doral, a pair of long apartment blocks lining Main Street City Place, as well as 600,000 square feet of restaurants and retail, or enough to fill three Cocowalks.

Paramount Miami Worldcenter, and the Mall at Miami Worldcenter, two of the key components of the multi-billion dollar Miami Worldcenter megaproject, held a joint groundbreaking ceremony today in Downtown Miami. The affair was likely the biggest ground breaking ceremony of this real estate cycle, and perhaps even in all of Miami’s history. The project itself (Paramount and the Mall are linked in one gigantic building) actually began work late last year.

Louver House, a 12-unit boutique luxury condominium project in South-of-Fifth (a development type that has become something of a thing in the neighborhood, with buildings like Ocean House, 321 Ocean, Glass, 300 Collins, etc.) is going vertical, with the completion of its first concrete pour. Half of the building’s units are under contract, according to representatives of the project. It’s being developed by Mast Capital, and designed by architect Rene Gonzalez, and should be completed in the first quarter of 2017.
Liquor and tobacco licenses have exploded in Wynwood, Miami’s most famous arts district, and Midtown Miami, its more yuppie-ish conjoined twin, over the last six years by a whopping 877%. This is a significantly higher increase over the 174% average across Miami, and a major indicator of the direction the two neighborhoods are growing, according to data compiled by Gridics. Between I-95, NE/NW 20th, Biscayne Boulevard, and I-195, 66 alcohol and tobacco licenses were granted since January 1st 2010 for restaurants, bars, and other establishments like Sugarcane on Midtown Boulevard, and Gramps on NW 24th Street. Wynwood even has a microbrewery scene. Three out of those 66 licenses are tobacco permits. Expired permits are not included.

With new, slightly relaxed Federal Aviation Administration restrictions affecting planned and under construction towers across Miami’s urban core, the height of SkyRise Miami was approved yesterday by the FAA at a taller height of 1,045 feet, reports The Next Miami.
