Last week the City of Miami Beach painted the bicycle lane on 16th Street green, a move that should make the lane more visible to motorists and safer for bicyclists. Green bike lanes have been a thing for a while now, and this is the first to go in on the beach, making it a long overdue move. Former Miami Beach City Commission candidate and local activist Michael DeFilippi announced the change on his ‘Clean Up Miami Beach’ Facebook page. We haven’t taken a ride down it yet since the change, but the green looks breezy.
Update: In a Facebook post Mayor Levine, using our photo, announced that green bike lanes are coming next to the other (south) side of 16th Street, from Washington Avenue to Alton Road, then Alton Road from 5th Street to South Pointe Drive and extending to Ocean Drive.
