Miami Today put the Malaysian casino conglomerate Genting Group’s situation at the former Miami Herald Building site succinctly when it said that their redevelopment of that property into the Resorts World Miami has been “in a holding pattern for years” since casino plans on stalled. However, there still appears to be life behind the scenes.
Genting is currently renovating the adjacent historic Shrine Building on Biscayne Boulevard, and according to Miami Today moving forward on plans to build a bay walk at the rear of the site to connect to Museum Park’s bay walk immediately to the south. The bay walk would be a part of Genting’s future plans for the site, which have not yet been publicly disclosed. According to the latest plans, Genting will lease space under the I-395 bridge from the Florida Department of Transportation, including a small portion of the bay, to incorporate a connecting bay walk into its marina. To provide sufficient clearance, the bay walk will have to jog out into the bay a little. Genting also requested the removal of easements on the property in 2014 to allow the bay walk to move forward, and more recently requested a replatting to move forward with its plans.
