Miami-Dade County is considering building a rail line, be it Metrorail, Tri-Rail, or whatever, to the planned American Dream Miami mall, which will be the biggest mall in the United States, reports the Miami Herald.
The plan would also open up the northwest suburban area of the county to rail transportation, and fulfill a portion of the long-promised expansion of Metrorail that voters approved with a half-cent sales tax increase over a decade ago. Of course, as always, one of the main obstacles is money and funding, because all those sales tax half pennies have been spent on other things, like maintenance and highways. Maybe we’ll finally get it back from the highways though. Miami Today reported yesterday that the state is considering a plan to divert 25% of Miami-Dade Expressway Authority revenues to fund rail.
